    hey guys....

    if this is a faq just link me...sorry and thanx

    im caturing vhs no macrovision to dvd using

    ads instant dvd (external)
    ulead movie factory software

    i am running
    windows xp
    2.0 ghz
    1 gb ram
    direct x 9.0
    and soundcard unknown(no problems with playback or line out)

    all connections and drivers seem ok.....where else could the problem be?

    1) vcr audio output -> pc audio input not connected
    2) windows audio mixer - line input disabled or muted

    zootedlooter,
    Just a couple of sanity checks to make.
    You mentioned a line out connector on your sound card and that is fine but typically (as is in my case) the VHS sound outputs are connected to your sound cards input connectors (aka line-in or microphone or ?) and that the sound volume for recording is turned up for these inputs. This last point has bit me a couple of times.

    ok guys....i am connecting through an external capture card...via a usb 2.0 connection

    but i did go through the control panel to check the sound card
    the line in on the soundcard is not disabled nor is it muted....

  5. Did you turn up the volume in MovieFactory and Windows Volume Control?Also make sure that the USB device is the source of the audio(not line-in).

    I use an avertv usb2 device here .

    Video to capture device to usb2 port
    Audio to "line-in" ONLY . (you will need an adapter ... rca to stereo headphone jack)

    Dont do it the way you are using ...

    Having tested many internal and external devices for recording video , covering pci , usb2 , and vivo ... you will find better picture quality if the audio is NOT passed through the same device .

    Set device for audio as line-in for recording .
