My LiteOn LVE-5005 with mod 098 firmware to remove macrovision and be region free gives "Change Disc" message when atempt to finalize after erase disc and hew recording is done on Verbatim +RW media. The discs finalize fine on first recording but don't finalize after erase and new recording, Has anybody else had the problem or now a fix? Could the unit be defective and need to be sent to LiteOn for repair?

i think that with RW-dvd`s you dont need to finalized, i never did and i can see them in others dvd players

For inexplicable reasons the RWs that initially refused to play in DVD player now play fine without finalizing. It saves time to not have to finalize as long as RWs continue to play in the player without finalizing.

Have a 5045 and use Verbatim +RW disks

A + RW disk should not be finalized. If done the unit should refuse but on some occasions attempting to finalize this will screw up a recording and possibly the disk. With a number of uses the unit may say it is copying or burning the disk and is not and the unit will indicate No Disk or Invalid Disk
When this happens most times the only answer is to do a full erase on the PC and than do an erase [which formats the disk] in the recorder.
Most often this will restore the disk. If not, sometimes I will go thruugh this prociedure 2 or 3 times and than if no result It gets the round file.
I do feel that when the disk hits the round file the problem is most likely caused by somthing I did that the recorder and disk did not like

DO NOT Finalize a +RW disk under any circumstances. They DO NOT Require this to play in any unit that will accept a + disk. If an other unit will not play such a disk. The recorder may not play + disks. I have found that some such units might or will play a +R disk but will have nothing to do with a +RW

Comment about full erase on PC reminds me that my 5005 erases +RW fine but won't erase -RW, and full erase on PC is only solution I've found to erase -RW. I think I've seen other posts where some say their 5005s erase -RW with no problem, but I have two 5005s that don't as well as my son who has one that doesn't.

I have a related question. A couple of times that I have time-shifted a show and try to play the disk, the recorder comes back saying it is a data disc and wont' play. When this occurs, the recording and "finalizing" (using +rw) is usaually accompanied by a lot of strange noises from the drive. Does anyone know why or what causes this to happen?

("finalizing" is used as a loose term to represent closing the disc/file)

    Thanks
