i know i can drag an avi file from explorer to the player, i was wondering if there is a simple way to choose the movie in the player (classic media player or bs player) the dvd menus in the guide seem to complicated for this task. Thanks ,Lin

No such thing is possible as there's no standard for a menu system.

Using the new DivX format (an "extension" of AVI), you can add a menu. IIRC, there's something like DivXMediaBuilder to use. However, the standalone player support is slim, to say the least. Look for DivX Ultra certified players. Software players are also limited, but DivX own player should work.

  5. You can create a simple html web page with relative links to your videos. The menu would only work when viewing the DVD on a PC, but that was your plan anyway.

  6. Under Windows you can just use Explorer to navigate to the DVD and display the file list. Using a media player you can use the File -> Open dialog.

Set-top Divx/DVD players will show a simple text menu of the AVI files on the DVD. Use the remote to select the one you want. There is sometimes an option in the player's setup for menu or autoplay.
