I recently bought and paid a good deal of money for the software Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum for mu new Sony computer with XP. I updated the software. Does this program allow me to burn SVCD's(MPEG2). I burned a VCD and played it on my DVD and the picture on my 52" TV was not very clear. Is there something I can do with this program to burn better quality VCD's?

I use Easy CD Creator for my VCDs. I can put several home movies on a CD with menus. You can't do SVCDs with Easy CD, however. Only standard MPEG1 VCDs. To improve quality you need to focus on the encoder. TMPEGEnc is one of the best. You can try the various filters within TMPEGEnc as long as you don't stray from the standard MPEG1 format. Your other choice is SVCD but that requires more software and the knowledge and experience to go with it.
Good luck.
