Advice: MPEG file, logo and re-encode

Hello, I've got an MPEG file which i recorded using my ATI All-In-Wonder. it's about 4 minutes and has a discreet logo at the top left. Most of the logo is actually on the black letterbox but some of it is over the actual video. I would like to remove the logo by re-applying the letterboxing again and replace it with another logo. My question is: can i do that without to re-encoding? If not then what is the best program(s) to do this with minimum re-encoding and loss of quality?

No, you can't without reencoding.
Best bet is to load it in VirtualDubMod for cropping/adding new logo, frameserve to your favourite encoder.

Since you'll have to re-encode it, there are external filters (DeLogo, MSU Logo Remover etc.) for VirtualDub capable of removing a logo without cropping important parts (though needs some time for experimenting to find the best settings).

The BEST way to do it is to open your mpeg-2 In VirtualDub-mpeg-2, then use DeLogo to remove the logo.

It would be best if your original file was not compressed, but hopefully, you compressed it at a high bitrate.
