Is this spooky or have i done something wrong?

My Turkish friend sent me over his wedding DVD to look at because it was recorded without menu's or chapters so i followed instructions to convert the vobs back to mpg and added some menu's and chapters in order that it was presentable. When i play the finished product on my standalone in the UK no problem, works a treat however, when i took it over to Turkey to give to my friend there is no sound???

The unit that i have in Turkey was brought over by myself so i do not think that is the problem but, i have tried it in several units over there to no avail, bring it back to UK and it is fine...

Before i do anything else can anyone give me an idea were i should look first

    Thanks in advance

  2. Did you connect via a SCART lead or use an RF output to connect to the televisions? I ask because there are seveal flavours of PAL that mostly have different seperation between vision and sound carriers. The result is that if you cross use them they will show video and no sound or sound and no video. Of course it only applies when you use RF coupling.

The TV and player are connected by Scart, does this help any?

  4. Hmmmm! This has got to be something pretty basic such as having all the players set to look, and use a Turkish soundtrack and not an English one or something similar. Did you try playing around with selecting alternative sound tracks etc.? I know I have a DVD that I built that works fine in the two players I have but not on my parents one until you switch through the alternate audio tracks and then it pops up.

Apart from the above I'm at a loss as to what it could be.

Edit: Just had a thought, you didn't inadvertently convert the audio sampling from 48KHz to 44KHz. Some players will still work with this but most won't.

Right, I lied, it does NOT play on all my standalones, it only plays on my Lite-on 5045 dvd recorder. I have taken a snapshot of the set up from gspot and here it is

Is it the audio?? if this is what i suspect then is it possible to demux the audio and re encode, if so whats the best way to achieve this??

  8. It seems OK except for one thing, the Container info says 1 video, 1 audio and 1 other. The bit about 1 other is not right and it should only say 1 video and 1 audio so it looks as though there is something in there that shouldn't be and it's probably that which is causing all the problems.

Do you still have the mpg file you generated from the original disc? Can you run that through Gspot and see whether you still have the "1 other" shown?

Unfortunately i do not have the original audio file, if it means demuxing back can it be re encoded???, was not sure about the "mpeg layer 2" format, thought it might be that.

I really am down about this, especially as my friends are arriving soon from Turkey so i wanted to give it to them

  10. You can, given the right software (I use TMPGEnc DVD Author) reduce the DVD back to mpeg, check whether you still have the unknown stuff in there, you may strike lucky and find that the process has removed the unwanted stream. If not split the mpeg file into the seperate audio/video streams. Use Gspot to make sure that both streams are clean and then recombine to make a single file with 1 video & 1 audio stream.

It's a lot of mucking around but hopefully you'll end up with clean mpeg files that you can rebuild into your DVD.
