  1. Looking for a free program to convert vob to mpg. Have a dvd I downloaded (private concert, not comercial) and cannot burn using nero. It is a large file that requires DL dvd. I have already wasted a single dvd-DL and I feel the best way is to break it into two dvd. I have the ulead program that can convert mpeg to dvd authoring material and can marry mpegs together. I need to convert to mpeg. Can anyone suggest a free program and/or proceedure to accomplish this. TIA.

Funnily enough, there is a program called . . . . . . VOB2MPG, which just happens to convert VOBs to mpegs. Amazing, ain't it.

  5. I tried the program and it did convert to mpg, however, all the portions of the video are out of order and interspliced with each other. What can I do about this? The files need to be imported in order or else its a jumble. Can anyone offer me advice here?

There are other methods to break the DVD into 2 discs.

That's the way things (can) work. Video in a VOB doesn't necessarily come in "cronological order", as with the aid of the accompanying IFO file, the DVD player will jump and skip around reading from different parts to play in sequence.
When you use VOB2MPG you get the VOB content in the order it's stored in the VOB.
Possibly it can be fixed by ripping the DVD in a different way, like DVDDecrypter in IFO mode.

With the added bonus that it's freeware, also something the OP asked for.

You need something to IFO parse to extract a PGC, then, before using something like vob2mpg.

VOBs are / contain mpeg files / data, the only real diffence being they are necessarily sequential (indexed by IFOs), and often contain different angles, subtitles, additional audio streams, menus, extras...
