I downloaded a video and, although it says that it is over an hour long (and 700 MB), only the first 30 seconds will play back. It appears that the theater preview was attached to the beginning of the film and it just stops at 30 seconds. I've tried both WMP and VLC to no avail. Any suggestions?

    Download it again

You could try opening it in virtualdub and scanning for bad frames, or running one of the divxfix tools listed in the tools section. But generally if the file is corrupt, it is simpler to just toss it out and start again.

  3. Or it could be a fake file, but we don't talk about such things here...

Fake file. Thanks for the help. On the positive side, I've learned to use Vdub and a few other video tools.
