    Hello,

For the past six months,I've been having the clogged nozzles. At first I would put a few drops of 90 % rubbing alcohol on the nozzles and scrub the tip of them with a q-tip and repeat the process a few times along with head cleaning and it would eventually work. Fast forward to this week where after more and more unclogging procedures and now the black and yellow nozzles are totally clogged while the rest are partially clogged (25%). I bought this cleaning kit from the local computer shop that has a syringe with a bottle of clear liquid that says to squeeze 2ml of it into the ink inlets then re-insert the catridges and let it set for 8 hours before powering it back on. I did this 3 times and it seems to have become clogged even more. I think it's time to do away with this epson for good. I've read reviews about the Canon PIXMA iP4200 and people say it's way better and it won't clog and it does have the automatic printing to both sides of the paper, however the NA models won't do the cd tray printing, I heard there is a simple mod/ bypass that takes 15 mins to do and then it should print. Can anyone give me a link to that so I can see if I am capable of doing it before I purchase this printer? I've seen it on sale for 79.99 in Toronto. Thanks

  3. You'll need a CD/DVD tray like this:

Some people make their own out of cardboard.

The rest is done by button presses on the front panel, installing a driver, and the CD-Print software.

I was just wondering: The Wife has a lot of nice expensive Epson paper and she is a graphic design student and loves the print outs on the epson. Would the Epson high quality paper look good on the canon ip4200? I also heard about how the canon will keep you from seeing how much ink you have if you click yes I refilled my catridge or I use generic. That is the only thing holding me back on the Canon well that and my giant supply of fancy Epson paper.

Hey Hap: Will that link you provided also work for the ip5000? I heard some people say the ip5000 looks a little worse than the ip4200,but the ip5000 doesn't have that disable ink monitor setting that the ip4200 has.

  6. I happen to have some old Epson 4x6 "glossy photo paper" sitting around. I printed some test photos on it with my Canon Pixma iP4000. It looked about the same as other photo papers.

The other way around was an issue when I had an Epson 870 a few years ago. It was very picky about photo paper. On non Epson paper the ink would puddle, smear, and wouldn't dry.

  7. Just curious did the nozzles clog on genuine Epson cartridges? Mayeb you should call them.

  8. Staples.ca has the Canon ip4300 for $149 with CD printing. If you get it, please give us a review of it. Thanks.

I hear your frustration with the Epson. However, I don't believe your experience is common. Epson makes a fine printer, always have. I started using their printers back in the 80s and haven't looked back. Currently I have an Epson cx5200, cx5400, cx6400, r500, and r340. And they are all running strong with no problems, never a problem in the last 5+ years with normal use. What is your environment like? Are you using stock ink cartridges? Or cheap knockoffs?

Personally, I would stick with the Epson.

  10. The Canon IP4300 is well below $100 now and the photo quality should be excellent even on Epson paper. HP paper on the other hand does not work well with the Canon's from what I've tried.
