    Hi All,

I have read through the FAQ's and am looking for an easy way to convert NTSC 30fps video to PAL 25fps easily without the jerkiness every few seconds.

I have been using TMPGEnc 2.5+ but I am starting to have problems with some of the new audio codecs not being supported.

    Any help is appreciated.

There is almost no way to do this nicely. The best chance you have is if the original source was 23.976, encoded as 29.97. You might then be able to undo the damage to get back to 23.976, and from there is is a simple matter to convert to PAL as 25 fps. If the original was actually shot at 29.97 then it is virtually impossible to get a smooth conversion to 25 fps because you have to throw away data to do so.

Why are you trying to convert the video ? It is almost impossible to buy a DVD player in Australia that cannot play NTSC material, outputting as either NTSC or PAL. Are you sure it's worth the effort ?

    Thanks for the reply.

I have to admit, I have been considering this myself.

The reason for the PAL conversion was back when the DVD players couldn't handle NTSC like they do today. I have started to play with the latest version of TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress to see what the output from this is like.

    Thanks again.

The best encoder for format conversion, at least by reputation, is ProCoder. I never bother to convert, I just play back native format, so I don't know if it as good with 29.97 -> 25 as it is with 23.976 -> 25
