Hiya,
I have an old VHS tape of a German movie that has a dubbed English soundtrack. I've just bought the DVD in Germany which has a superior image and the original German soundtrack but no English of any kind. I want to take the English dubbing from the VHS and add it to the superior DVD image.
I'm not a complete newbie and have no problem with the capturing and joining of the files etc. It's getting the audio in sync that I'm baffled by. I never expected it to be simple but I don't know where to start. I've started splitting it up into individual scenes to try and do it that way but it's going to take forever. Any ideas on what could be the easiest technique or what would be the best software to use?

You have two options:
1.Make subtitles and add it to the substream(prefered).
2.Use an NLE to add text to the video and reencode. -
If they are identical edits of the movie.
If they have identical running times.
If your VHS version hasn't stretched too much over the years.
Then putting it all together shouldn't be that difficult.
For audio syncing I prefer Vegas. In part this is because I have been using it for some time and am used to it, and also because it has excellent audio capabilities. I have also found that I can do almost as much by sight when syncing in Vegas as I do by ear.
To start with though, what are the answers to the three questions above ?Read my blog here.
