I have a TDK 440N DVD-+R DVD Recorder for my computer. I'm running Windows XP and I have added the only firmware for my writer that I could find. This burner is decent I mean I really can't burn over 1X which I haven't but every time I try and burn a movie or DVD copy of my movies (by the way I use the newest Nero porgram) the burner won't even complete the seeking, this happens a lot of the times it will also say power calibeartion error sometimes. Very rarily it will get half or more than half complete then freeze. The only really good thing about all this is that as long as it burns the first five to ten mins. of the dvd it will usually work now it refuses to even complete the seeking costing me hundreds of coasters which is really pissing me off considering that I have a lot of projects to burn, can somebody please tell me what in the hell is wrong with my stupid burner thanks. you guyes always find the problem so I know I can trust you.It might be my DMA mode or something but I dunno how to check that and also if you need my log of nero I will be happy to give you one.
Cheers![]()

This drive is rather dated, you may want to consider a new burner.
-
try putting only the tdk drive on the second ide channel and the drive with the os on the main ide channel. set the jumper on the rear of the drive to master and see if it works.
-
Ghettorapboy7,
First things first...the logs say you have a "TDK DVDRW0404N" drive with firmware version 1.08. I can't seem to get a link to work right, but if you go to rpc1.org, click "Download Search" on the left, and enter "DVDRW0404N" (without the quotes), you'll come to a page that has firmware up to 1.0C for your drive. Upgrading your firmware may be all that's needed for the RITEKG - 05 media you're using.
The error you're getting is caused by an incompatibility between the drive and the media, which is why upgrading the firmware is the most likely fix for the problem. -
Thats you guyes I appreciate the help I'm going to try the firmware for now because that might be the problem. Do you think if I just use TDK Media DVD's will that help cure the problem?
-
Ghettorapboy7,
Yes, if you use (good) media that was available when your current firmware was written, you should be able to burn again. Use whatever normally works with your burner. If TDK has been working, then use that.
If you do try other media, it would be a good idea to post the burn log from it. Any other problems would be easier to see. For example, the logs you've already posted show large amounts of memory are in use while you're trying to burn. It's a good idea to not do other things on the computer while a burn is in progress. -
@Ghettorapboy7, Hi....Just wanted 2 say I agree VegasBud...Using good media and always keeping ur firmware up to date is very good practice....Here is the website I use for firmware updates....I found your's if u havent found it already....Have a great day....
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1596~~~U WON'T KNOW IF U DON'T ASK~~~ -
Thanks a lot! You guyes are a great help I'll post the new log with the TDK it usually does work when I use better media because right now I'm using pretty crappy media
But I think the firmware is up to date but I'll look for that also and I never do anything while it burning but thanks for the heads up
Thanks again
Cheers -
Thanks for the firmware hopefully this helps too I'll let you guyes know when I get some TDK blanks

Dust!!!
That means heat build-up and faulty connections.

problem seems to have ceased.
Don't know if that's what's wrong with your PC but
maybe this will help somebody!

I can't see that anyone's suggested using re-writeable media: DVD+/-RW - it won't solve why the write is failing, but at least you won't be wasting discs!

Now when I put in a blank DVD it won't even say its in there but all other types of media work I dunno. I upgraded the firmware to the latest and now all this is happening I'm going to try the get rid of the dust.

As for the dust..... People probably laughed at my post about dust, but it will
harm the PC (heat build-up, etc). -
