    so is it a full frame tbc? does it work as well as the $300 units that seem to be favored by some on this forum

    It is NOT a TBC of any kind.

    It is just a device used to remove copy protection from a video so that you may copy it to another device that would normally not allow the recording of copy protected videos.

    I have heard some people say it works but I have also heard other people say it doesn't always work and/or it works but degrades the original video quality somewhat.

    Definately do not be fooled into thinking that this works like a TBC ... it is not a TBC. The cheapest Full Frame TBC is the AVT-8710 which appears to have gone up in price again just recently but it still a lot less than the DataVideo TBC-1000 (which is the only other "cheap" Full Frame TBC device on the market).
