  1. I'm trying to convert a DIVX file and when AVISynth runs I ger the error: "Couldn't locate a decompressor for fourcc DIVX"
Is there a plug-in or a codec that can be installed to remedy this. Is there a convertor that will convert a DIVX to a suitable AVI file for encoding? Thanks!!!

Isn't the normal DivX FourCC something other than DIVX like DIV5 or something like that?

I dunno but here is a suggestion:

There is a way to fource a FourCC when loading an AVI with AviSynth so if the AVI comes up as DIVX you can instead fource it to DIV5 or whatever.

Only problem is the AviSynth website is down right now and I don't remember how to do it without access to the on-line manual.

DX50 appears to be the standard FourCC for DivX 5 and 6, yes. However, since DivX 4 (apparently), they've also used the alternate FourCC 'DIVX.' I've no idea why or under what circumstances it's used (or if DivX 6 also uses it).

  6. Gunslinger, ffdshow worked great! The resulting AVI was a bit hard to work with? But my final output looks very good. AVI2DVD and DVD2SVCD did not like the audio and aborted. MYDVD locked up? I ended up bringing the AVI into TMPEGenc and encoding it to a DVD compliant MPEG2 Stream, demuxed it and authored with DVDauthor. The DVD plays perfect in my DVD player. This actually was a sloppy source video. The audio had plenty of hum and noise distortion. Before I authored the DVD I took the MP2 and converted to WAV. I do a lot of audio editing and cleaned up the audio and converted it back to MP2. Thanks again for the help!
