Is it possible to create a script to extract the audio stream as an uncompressed WAV file in VirtualDub?

Use VirtualDub (I use VirtualDubMod) to DEMUX audio when it is AC-3 format.
If the audio is MP3 then load the AVI into GOLDWAVE and save it as a WAV file.

If you're not adverse to writing batch files, you can try the command-line version of AVI2WAV (which should be included in the main AVI2WAV archive). I don't know how it fares with AC3 audio in an AVI, though... and yes, it should probably be extracted rather than converted to a WAVE file in that case.
I think AVIDemux may also be able to demux streams from AVIs, but I haven't tried it, so I don't know if it supports batch demuxing. If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
