  1. Is it possible to create a script to extract the audio stream as an uncompressed WAV file in VirtualDub?

What is the audio type that you will be extracting?

For instance if the original audio is AC-3 then you con't want to extract as a WAV file. If the original audio is MP3 then again you don't want to extract as a WAV file at least not with VirtualDub.

Use VirtualDub (I use VirtualDubMod) to DEMUX audio when it is AC-3 format.

If the audio is MP3 then load the AVI into GOLDWAVE and save it as a WAV file.

If you're not adverse to writing batch files, you can try the command-line version of AVI2WAV (which should be included in the main AVI2WAV archive). I don't know how it fares with AC3 audio in an AVI, though... and yes, it should probably be extracted rather than converted to a WAVE file in that case.

I think AVIDemux may also be able to demux streams from AVIs, but I haven't tried it, so I don't know if it supports batch demuxing.

You could use mplayer with -ao pcm. It can handle pretty much any audio format and being cli based it is easy to batch.
