and reluctantly (really not anymore) I have to fully agree. Out of pure curiosity I checked my 3 pc's with NOD32 and in all cases it found and cleaned not only boot viruses but also couple Trojans. All systems were "protected" by AVG Free. One started to have CPU usage issues (constant 70-80% usage) for about a week. NOD32 stopped it on the spot (as opposed to AVG which was still happily allowing that). In all 3 cases it identified a number of threats missed by AVG. No need to say that it will stay here to replace AVG permanently. PC scan (full) is very quick (2-3 times) comp. to AVG or Norton. I was sceptical but now I understand why NOD32 is rated so high. I'd recommend it to anyone. Trial is available online.

I used to use Norton until I found Avast. It's free, doesn't hijack all your Xp security settings like Norton, and updates are often, automatic (if you choose) and fast. It sits in your system tray and watches everything. You can also scan your HD by right clicking the drive name in Explorer. And it doesn't use a boatload of resources like Norton. Very slick package and I highly recommend it 8)

I think everyone just has Norton in the wrong category.

I belive it is no longer a AntiVirus application. It is now a TASK Manager application.
It takes over 100% of your CPU then dishes out resources to other background tasks that it see fit.

Applications that may or may not get cpu time is explorer.exe, svshost.exe andetc. You know, the uneccesary stuff.

So if you are looking for a good CPU resource program that locks the pc down nice and tight, get Norton xxx.

    (xxx = ANYTHING THEY MAKE)

It's so sad Peter Norton sold his soul to Symantec so long ago (say that fast 5 times without spraying your monitor ). He used to make a damned fine Utilities package that wasn't "Hitlerware" <fondly remembers the good old days>

    What.

    No mention of ZoneAlarm?

(Even though I use Webroot's Spysweeper in place of the one within the Zonealarm suite, I haven't had any trouble whatsoever with virii et all from the internet.)
Whatever doesn't kill me, merely ticks me off. (Never again a Sony consumer.)

    I posted here...

    This is what I said...

I gave up on Norton a long time ago.

I tried a few others with the EICAR test virus...

    http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm

AVG..... Didn't detect the test virus when I downloaded it and
didn't find it during a scan.

Panda..... Didn't detect the test virus when I downloaded it but
did find it during a scan.

NOD32..... Here's a screenshot of what happened when I tried to download EICAR
    with NOD32 enabled.....

A man walked into his son's room and said..."Son, that will cause blindness."
The boy said, "Dad, I'm over here."
