  1. With the release of the new iPod file format i was wondering if it would be possible to add chapter marks like the videos now avalible on iTunes? Also would it be possible to include subtitles in the file too? I know they are not "officially" supported but i know they are possible in iPod m4v files. OK thanks i was just wondering if it would be possible to add those things in ffmpegX

If you have the ".srt" subtitle file, ffmpegX will permit you to embed it into a DivX AVI using the mencoder setting. Then convert using one of the two iPod H264 settings.

I do not know about the chapter marks.

  3. is an srt file like the standard subitle format for mp4 files? mpeg-4 timed text is the official subtitle format. thanks (edit) I'm not asking about permenant subtitles burnt onto the video, but selectable subs. (edit

The srt is one of the "standard" subtitle formats. It is what ffmpegX will use for inclusion with the DVD it can create from your source movie. It is also the format that ffmpegX will embed in an AVI (should you so desire).

I know of no facility within iTunes that will permit you to select a subtitle "track". Certainly there is nothing within the iPod to permit this either.

I embed the subtitles and then convert the result to H264 and drop it into my iPod where the subtitles will, of course, always appear.

  5. I know at this time ther isn't support for the selectible subs at this time but the video downloaded from the itunes store do have a subtitle track in them. So i feel there will be support for them in the future.

  6. well I think i have found a way... MP4Box can convert srt files to the correct format for mp4 files. I think Mp4box also can do the chapters. I was just wondering if something like this could be put into ffmpegX. I'm really interested in this becuase i have finnaly put my iBook back together (yes i ripped it apart a year ago and just now put it back together......)
