im facing the same problem. I have three avi files that i want to merge with virtualdub or nandub or any other tool. Problem is when I try to append the second file, i get an error saying 'Cannot merge. ....different audio sampling rates'. How can I fix this error so that the files can be merged?
You mentioned something about reencoding. How do I do that so that the audio sample rates are the same?

You could re-encode the audio to the same format and just use a common sampling rate for both files. You can do that in VirtualDub or use a audio editor. 48Khz is the DVD standard, probably a good rate to use. Use full processing in VD for the audio and Direct stream copy for the video. After you processed both videos you should be able to join them.

If you run into VBR audio, it can be a little more complicated. If the audio sample rates were different, someone may have already created some sync problems.

If your final destination is DVD, I wouldn't join them at all. That avoids some audio sync problems caused by bad joins. It works better to let your authoring program 'join' them when you author the DVD.

Alternately for all this, try ConvertXToDVD. It 'might' handle them as is.

    Mats ,
I know that this is an old thread that I dug up. But I thought its better to do that than to start a new thread because another board said that i would halp conserve bandwidth by not starting new threads. But if its okay with you guys ill start new threads.
