I've tried everything. The only great looking recording that I can get out of this card is MPEG 2 OPTIMAL. I tried recording something with DIVX and it's horrid looking. I tried to record something with XviD and it won't even work. Can some help with me with a couple things?
    1. I'm a complete noob, if someone has this card could someone recommend me a good record setting on any file type.

    2. Does someone know how I can convert a MPEG 2 to xvid so I'm not using up so much HD space?

    3. Does someone know a good video editing software that I can edit commercials out with?

    4. Can someone tell me how to record using xvid? I tried several times and the program stops and freezes.

I think I've updated the drivers properly, but with this software who knows.

    Thanks.

It takes a hefty PC to capture directly to XVID, i'm not sure yours is upto the job. If you must capture to AVI use Huffy, although the file sizes would be very large.

I tried to encode a file that is a mpeg2 to xvid and the file came out very slugish when i played it on my home dvd player that usually play xvid's and divx's with no problem at all. Now the show is an 60 minutes long and came out to 2.8 gig and I tried to encode it to 1 cd length could that have anything to do with it?

    yeah I used AutoGK
input file output had it save to my desktop

    audio stream 0MPEG

predefined size: cd 1 (file size = 2.8gig)

    advanced settings = XviD

add job -> start wait and then played fine on the computer, but now on the dvd player.
