Hi, can anyone tell me if they now of a program that can easily convert a -RW disk from a dvd recorder in VR mode to normal Video mode. This would mean I could us VR mode on my sony GX300 and copy to a more widely exepted format on the PC for archiving.

Also an aside - I have nero (6 I think) can I copy formated 'RW+-' to archive on 'R+-'. Then I can reuse the RW disks . Or is there any free dvd copying software I can download that anyone can recommend.
    Thanks

In regard to the latter, I have done this a number of times with Nero 6, and coincidentally am about to do it again. Can't recall right now if the -RW VR was finalized or not, or if that matters. I would guess that I've done it either way, but can tell you for sure in the near future.

When you mention archiving, that brings up a good point. The rewriteables don't seem to be recommended for long term storage. (How long what's recorded on them is apt to last, I do not know.)

I'm still looking for a solution that goes in the other direction, from the PC to the DVR. That is, ouput / burn in VR format to -RW, in the PC. That is the only way to high speed copy video (with no re-encoding) into the hard drive of the DVR. This would open up a lot of convenience. So far, the only suggestion I've gotten for this is Cyberlink Power Producer, a product that has gotten mostly bad reviews here, although some say that an earlier version of it is more stable or reliable.

If it has not been finaized, the following may work.

Use RipIt4Me ( which works with DVDdecrypter) to rip the +RW, and then use FixVTS to change the resulting video to DVD compliant video. Then just burn as you would any DVD.
Some days it seems as if all I'm doing is rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic

    Thanks all,
Baldrick - will take a look
normcar - will take another few looks
seeker - it's only rw to r that I want, I wouldn't feel happy archiving with rw but I don't know if that's right. Its cheap enough to do two r copies of each and but 1 set in a very dry, cool, safe case. I can't stretch to harddrive recording yet so the other problem is one for the future for me.
