Can someone recommend an encoder that is like SUPER. I've been having problems with it, and want something like it that has the same freedom to alter specific factors. Preferably freeware/shareware, because trial programs, as you know, often leave some kind of imprint.

Thanks, it's a good program. However, its only a trial version, and thus leaves an imprint on the top left hand of the screen, which I really would like to avoid. But thanks anyway. Any more suggestions?

MediaCoder is similar to SUPER in-so-far as the range of video it can handle, and the type of settings you can change. It is based around the same basic engines as SUPER, but has a more complex and possibly more power interface. And it's free.

I think I'm about to lose it completely!! I tried downloading two versions of Mediaenncoder, but when I use them, they just freeze, says program not responding and I can't end them. I have to reset computer, which can't be doing it any good. I've failed to find anywhere to put my film online which has good quality picture. So I've given in and de cided to put it on Google Video, and all I want to do is encode it to their advised specifications to get as good a picture as I can. Yet either the programs I use don't work or are trialware and leave an imprint!! Aaaaaaaaargh!!! This is getting extremely frustrating indeed. I wish Adobe Premiere would allow more options when encoding. I can't afford to buy some program.........

Have you tried looking in the HOW TO - CONVERT section? You can look up tools/guides based on your input/output needs.

I've looked but not found much to help. I need to convert an MPEG2 to MPEG2 wth different specifications or to MPEG-4. Is MP4 in the conversion list the same as MPEG-4?

Thanks alot. Howver, more trouble. What a surprise. I'm jinxed. I downloaded TMPGenc, but it won't recognise my input sourse, though its MPEG-2. Says cannot open or unsupported. Secondly, it says that I can't encode to MPEG-2 anyway, because my 30 day trial has expired, even though I've only just downloaded it!! What's going on?

TMPGEncPlus is only free for MPEG1; MPEG2 encoding works just within trial period (can't understand the message about 30 days, did you have any tracks of an older installation? - maybe it's just a buggy reaction to opening a MPEG2). TMPGEncXpress 3 or 4 (it also has a trial version but trial licence is only available through web registration) is capable of opening MPEG2 and even HDTV. And it's twice faster.

I highly recommend you give gui4ffmpeg a try. I use it regularly to convert Full-D1 MPEG2 captures to Half-D1 MPEG2 files. Fast, friendly, powerful, and flexible.

Ditto I use it to go the other way, i.e., from half-D1 to full-D1. In the process it also transcodes the audio from Mpeg to Dolby AC3, which is more DVD compliant (for NTSC).

Gui4ffmpeg is a user interface that runs ffmpeg, which is a very capable encoder between many formats. It can do audio-only transcoding too.

If you have any questions about using it, I'm sure you can get them answered here.
