  1. This was my first time burning a VCD, so I'm hoping I didn't mess up.

I used Nero 7 to burn a VCD with a .avi file on a standard 80 minute CD-R. I did this using the default settings and nothing went wrong while it was writing.

I tried it on my DVD player and it worked well enough (played fine all the way through), but I did notice a rather annoying problem. The picture would "pulse," but I could pretty much only notice it when the screen was completely black. It's not very noticable when there's a lot of colour on the screen or anything, but I assume it's not very good for the eyes.

The file I put on the CD doesn't have this problem on the computer, and neither do any DVDs I watch on my player.

Is this a known problem, and is there a way to fix it? Is it possible I did something wrong?

    Thanks.

Nero isn't the sharpes knife in the drawer when it comes to AVI to VCD (or anything else for that matter). I suggest you read some guides on AVI to VCD found under CONVERT left, specially those that involve TMPGEnc and VCDEasy.

Your original Xvid does the same thing, you just don't notice it on the PC because of the different gamma settings. That, and the fact that VCD is very poor for anything dark or with motion, gives you the quality you are getting.
