Hello all! I thought I would be smart and figure out how to get HDDVD without having to buy a new DVD player. In my mind, I figured that if one could find an HD Divx file, then all you would have to do is burn that file onto a DVD (as a data disc, not as a DVD-video), slip it into the DivX upconverting DVD player (with 1080i output via HDMI), and watch true HD stream across your television. However, whenever I try to play the file on the DVD player, it simply says "Cannot play this file." No reason or anything. I am wondering if it has to do with the high resolution, but I am not exactly sure because I am no expert at this. Other DivX files (standard definition) that I have burned have worked on the player - why won't the HD one work?

Here is the information for the file in GSpot:

    VIDEO
    Codec: DivX 5.0
    Length: 00:48:27
    Frames: 69,695
    kbps: 2433
    Qf: 0.110
    Pics/sec: 23.976
    FPS: 23.976
    Resolution: 1280x720
    FAR: 1.778 (16:9)
    PAR: 1.00
    DAR: 1.778 (16:9)

    AUDIO
    Codec: AC3, Dolby
    48000Hz
    448 kb/s total
    5 channels

Is it possible that it won't play because it is a progressive image? Can anyone try to help me? Thanks in advance...

It won't play because none of the current divx players support HD files.
