  1. Need to capture from componant output and digital sound if possible. I need suggestions on device and software. I like to have a software that I can schedule to record from device output. I have ATI AIW but the scheduling doesn't work right also I like to record in dolby digital or mpg2 sound track that comes with it. I tried DVD recorder it was too much time consuming to get it to computer to edit and with remote on dvd recorder doesn't do it for me.
I need suggestions on what I need to buy device and software .

What device are you recording from?
    What kind of component video?

Consumer products usually prevent copy from component or S/PDIF inputs. Pro products will be very expensive plus they assume an unencrypted uncompressed (studio) source.

  3. I record from Sat receiver some sport stuff or things I may time shift, they are not encrypted because dvd recorder was doing it with no problem. I like to have good quality because I play back on my projector and home theater. AIW is ok but the software is not good, I like to control the capture and limit the file size so I would not get 5 or 6 gig file. Is there any capture software for this purpose? I tried Ulead it doesn't capture the sound . Some how AIW schedule doesn't work right specially the new ones I shouldn't have updated.
If there was a dvd recorder that I could link the HD to my computer that also captured mpg2 sound would be ok (wishful thinking)

Do you mean S-Video recording? That is easy and supported. Any DVD recorder or capture card can handle S-Video.

AIW supports many bitrates Which AIW card and ATI MMC software version are you using?

Another option that gives good results is Hauppauge PVR-250 or PVR USB2 but those will set you back ~$100-140

  5. my fuss is about recording sound, I want it to sound as if my sat receiver was connected to my home theater. Sat receiver has optical out and when I record sound turns into mpg1, I bought this polaroid dvd recoder it records the sound in mpg1 and when I record with timer the logo gets recorded too, when do simple record is ok no logo, but too much work to burn and take it to computer, it takes a long time to burn looks like burns at 2x. I like a reliable program that can schedule and record sound in mpg2. I rolled back the ATI driver to 9.08 it doesn't freeze but I can't schedule it says wrong parameter at the last save, I tried all the possible ways no chance.
