converting subtitle languages

I've got this old 1967 movie I'm trying to find english subtitles for. The only thing I could find are spanish subtitles. Is there any program or method other then actually knowning language A & B and manually converting each line

So basically I wanna take this spanish subtitle I downloaded and make it english. Is this possible?

I will add I spent an hour just trying to find any subs for this movie and the spanish ones are the only ones I can find so I don't have a lot of options

Aside from something like babelfish to translate, I can't think of a simple way to do what you ask. The other issue with automatic translators is the literal way they translate. For a simple test, take a paragraph in English, convert it to spanish or french, then take the translated version and convert it back to English. See how much changes along the way.

Failing any better option, you could use http://babelfish.altavista.com/translate.dyn.

Save the file as SRT, then to preserve format, save the SRT file as "X.html" with a

<PRE>

command at the top of the file and upload it to a temporary site, then feed that address to Babelfish. Save the resulting page and convert back to SRT. Hopefully the time code formatting will be okay. If not, change the symbols, try again, change back in the result.

It's likely to be sometimes weird, but you'll probably be able to follow the story (monster destroys Tokyo, I gather, if that's not a spoiler.)

I beleive you have no luck, babelfish doesn't work with me when I tryed to translate from english to portuguese (a few years before), and the results were terrible, but maybe you will be luckier than me.

The first one is dubbed, so I see no problem.

The 2nd one seems to be better.
