Yeah guys, I need help
Since last time when I needed to test some files I had to install and I played with this f****g piece of sh*t, so-called Windows Media Player 9 for Win2000.
This absolutely idiotic, disorganized, with GUI made completely without any possible logic is here on my machine, and unfortunately I need to keep this garbage for a while for some windows media formats crap testing.
Here's what I can't figure out how to do:
In its options I select the formats (extensions) I want to be assigned to this crapster (.wma & .wmv *ONLY*). So far so good (in theory nly though).
I select Apply & OK, and its all fine during this session.
But as soon as I log out and logon back (or reboot) and I turn on this f*cker, it immediately assignes all or almost all other formats to itself again (my god how i hate this stubborn piece of shit... even other similar shite, the "real(shit)" player, never was that hard)!
Yes I will uninstall it and delete any trace of it on my system, but for now I need it for next month or two, unfortunately
Is there a way to force this crap to remember that it should play WMA/WMV ONLY, and not steal other formats?
I am really bit tired of it, seriously. I wish Gates would shove it up his ass so deep that he would actually start talking in some f*cking WMA format >:/
Anyways.
Registry digging is of no help, this Gates Revenge Player has most keys like "b8903f62baadf8ee33a9bfd1b6b09602" with hex values that make no sense, say "fb3102c4" (aka "4214293188" lol, so unless you know what youre looking at ofcoz its pointless, and I don't think Gates & Co. will share that knowledge with a guy who tries to make it obsolete).
Please somebody save me some constant grief![]()

File type associations are in registry keys such as:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.wmv
Start there...
BTW - the long hex key names are UUIDs - widely used and accepted, not just in the MS world.John Miller -
go into "set program access and defaults" and set another media player as the default.
I am just a worthless liar,
I am just an imbecil -
@TooLFooL
Thx, but IMHO its not really good idea since I have quite few different progs assigned to diff. formats.
If I set i.e. WMP6 as my default media player, doing so would automatically assign i.e. mp3 or cd playback to it as well - while I prefer to keep i.e. mp3crap to play with WinCrap only, oops I meant WinAmp ofcoz, etc...
I dont want to change anything else but the WMP9 itself to remember that it is for wmv/wma only - and nothing else.
I know, it seems so simple, but I still haven't found a way to teach that idiotic prog to remember it :/ -
