  2. I always go to rarewares to download LAME.

Can I trust this version, meaning its not buggy at all?

It doesn't recommend this version at Hydrogen Audio and I always trust them.

    Download their Benchmark.zip

You can do a binary comparison of two mp3 files. Test it out.

  4. This version sounds really good.A speed increase is always welcome.

I'll probably do as you said and test it.I would like it for http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php to know about this version so's that loads of users can try it and report back.I'm not a registered user but I might just register to post about this faster version so people are aware of it.

You never know it could be the next recommended LAME at HA.org

Speed at the sacrifice of quality which is why it isn't recommended @ hydrogenaudio. No bit reservoir. If you are encoding music, encode multiple tracks at the same time. That way you can use multiple cores without sacrificing on quality.

Thats why I was wondering whether to even bother testing it.As you said faster speeds sacrifice quality and anyway the -Vx --vbr-new switch is fast enough already.

Well multithreading doesn't always have a quality impact, for instance it doesn't in XviD. Just in this case it does.
