  1. Hi

From how to convert Avi to SVCD using tempgenc:

    "Configure the Advanced
Select Source Aspect Ratio select 1:1 (VGA) (if your source is in 4:3 select 4:3 525 line(NTSC) for NTSC and 4:3 625 line(PAL) for PAL).
and under Video Arange Method Full screen(keep aspect ratio)"

    But what if the source isn't 4:3? I have a Pioneer 535 and a Philips 32" widescreen 16:9.

Most divX i download seems to be in the movieformat 2:35-1. I usually convert them to VCD using the standard PAL template. The result is of course a 4:3 picture with letterbox but with the original ratio preserved. If I change settings from 4:3 to 16:9 in tmpgenc will the whole area be 16:9 but the movie(visible part) still 2:35-1 or will it be warped so that everything changes from 2:35-1 to 16:9 and for instance faces become to narrow?

I also saw that someone said that it wasn't worth it to make SVCD because it wasn't better than VCD. However if I have a crystal clear DVD rip(DivX) and make a SVCD won't much of the annoying pixelation that occurs in VCD improve due to the higher bitrate of SVCDs?

Any answer would be appreciated, thanks in advance

I have a question to throw in.

Would 2 pass look any good? Three pass takes two long for me (over 40hrs!!!)

  3. Oh and I should also mention that I have no DVD player for my computer. However It's still possible to see MPG2(VCD) with the right software isn't it? Is there some good freeware player out there to use when checking the file you're working on?

Also I don't care if I have to use 3 74min CDr for one 90 min movie as long as quality is good.
