I am using the Klite codec pack (standard), and when I have the codec pack installed, artisan/media player classic/wmp 11 don't playback DVD sound, but if I uninstall the klite codec pack, they playback sound, but for some reason wmp has jerky video (although it's smooth when KLITECP is installed). I have no idea why this is happening but I would like the sound to work - my ideal goal is to be able to watch dvds in wmp for simplicity as well as because although pdvd7 plays dvds fine with klitecp installed, it dulls down the video quality (for whatever reason). Please help!

Edit: please note that I have absolutely the latest versions of all software mentioned here

One more reason we do NOT recommend codec packs: for conflicts that you ran into. Codec packs are usually not tested for mutual compatibility, system compatibility, or cross settings. The compiler slap together a mass installer w/ the latest binaries and call it "done". It's never that easy.

You might want to do a search for 'codec pack problems' or 'codec packs' on our site. You will see that the majority of people that installed them had problems with their installed codecs, players and operating systems. K-lite has a very bad reputation around here.

All you should need for MPEG-2 playback is the MPEG-2 codec. K-lite probably installed a whole bunch more you don't need. Uninstalling K-lite may not remove the damage.

Try VLC. If it plays the DVDs properly, then your codecs are corrupted or damaged. You can try removing the MPEG-2 codec with a program like Codec Sniper, then reinstalling it.

why would uninstalling klite codec pack not remove the damage? Also, to clarify: with KCP installed, wmp has perfect video, no audio. with KCP uninstalled, it has audio, but the video is jerky. That's what I need to fix...

Hmm, I've always had VLC and for some reason it didn't work before, but I've done something right, because it is doing exactly what I wanted: perfect sound + perfect video = perfect DVD playback! so the "problems" remain - pdvd7 has video quality for shit and wmp/etc/etc have no sound. However, I'm satisfied with this solution!
