all right, i must say first off that i am extremely frustrated right now.... i posted a topic more or less the same as this one... but since then i have done a few things... here's the deal

i was trying to burn a dvd with DVDdecrypter, but i kept getting a incompatible format error regarding my medium(disks) and at first i thought it was becuz i was using a 16x disk when before i was using 8x.... well a few people gave some ideas... and i tried those but they didn't work... so now i just bought a new dvd burner and installed it on my computer.... but the problem comes once i start dvd decrypter... it starts out like it is going to work... runs for a few minutes, but doesn't write anything except the leadin....then an error comes up saying incompatible format.... for my new drive i have a Lite-on DVDRW SHW-160P6S (PSOA) and the 2 types of media that i have tried are Maxell(prodiscF02) and Sony(sony16d1)...... anyone know why i can't get DD to burn to either of these disks?????? and by the way the movie is Click, in case that's important for some reason.

How did you rip Click to your HDD ? I believe that DVD Decrypter on it's own can successfully rip this film. You need to use either RipIt4Me, or the very latest DVD Fab Decrypter or AnyDVD.

I believe guns1inger meant to say that DVD Decrypter on its own can't do the job. Use RipIt4Me instead.

You NEED to use Ripit4me to rip the files to your hard drive. Using DVD DECRYPTER will NOT allow you to rip the movie "CLICK". This is why you're getting error msgs. Here's a guide on how to use Ripit4me which also incorporates the use of DVD DECRYPTER and using Fixvts.

    http://www.ripit4me.org/guide.html

    This has been discussed already.

actually this has not been discussed... i checked the other topic/forum... and nowhere does it state having any problems burning the movie... the only thing i found that it discussed was ripping the dvd... it rips perfectly fine for me, using either dvd fab and dvd decrypter (with fix tvs) and shrink has no problems with it..... its the buring that has problems..... it won't burn for me.... and i don't know why.....

Use IMGBURN to burn your discs. Check the LITEON FORUM at Cdfreaks.com to see what's the latest firmware for your LITEON dvd burner. Are you using the DVD SHRINK feature to automatically burn the disc after it's created the ISO file or VIDEO_TS file? I'd just open up IMGBURN separately when the DVD SHRINK process is done instead of having it automatically burn. Are you creating VIDEO_TS file or ISO IMAGE?

  12. two different burners implies that your problem lies elsewhere on your system. Possibly your drives are running in PIO mode rather than DMA, or the cable is duff. Try burning the same file on someones elses system or writting to a CDR or DVD-rw. Maybe your drive is DVD-r and you are using DVD+r blank discs (or vice versa). burn the iso image with some other softwares to prove your drive will correctly burn something.

Are you sure you have the jumper set correctly on the LITEON drive? Is your drive set to master, slave or cable? Using the cable select isn't the best to use. Set the jumper to either master or slave. Also try changing the ide cable on the drive. Some burners if a 80 wire ide cable is not used the drive will not function correctly.

my drive is set to slave... and as far as i know, there is nothing wrong with my cable, which is a 40 pin..... what i don't get is that when i looked thru the user manual, maxell was one of the brands that it said was compatble with this drive, and yet i am having problems with them....

I've always had my drives as master on the secondary buss. When you try to burn do you get errors before the burn actually starts or does it seem to burn some of the disc before you get the errors?
If you get the error messages when you add your files, and the drive never actually burns anything, then it's the file that the burn program doesn't like.Try a different movie.Maybe you have a bad disc and you keep ripping the same error.

dvd decrypter comes up... does the lead-in.... then starts to do the image... but only gets up to about 6kb/s for a few seconds... then hits zero, and right at about 3 minutes in, the error comes up... every time.

Try a new 80 wire ide cable and see if that helps. I'd also suggest you change the drive to the "MASTER" setting. Maxell outsources their dvd media to RITEK which is not the best dvd media to use.

    Try the new cable first.

The best store brand available now is made in Japan Sony's. They are one of the few made in Japan DVDRs available in stores. Try one of these. Keep to the best DVDR brands, they last longer, and are more compatable with both burners, and players.

ok, quick update..... i just bought some fujifilm dvd-r 4x speed... and they wouldn't work in my liteon drive, so i decided to try them in my old drive, which by the way is actually an Aopen drive instead of dynex like i origanally thought.... and it burned the movie..... i played it on my dvd player and it had quite a few glitches in it, but at least it burned and played (sort of) Anyone have any new ideas?

    Tymaraux,

Can you post a burn log? If you don't have one, you can get one by doing a "Test Mode" burn with ImgBurn or DvdDecrypter. A "Test Mode" burn doesn't actually write to the disk, so you won't be wasting another disk, but provides a wealth of information.

Tymaraux did you ever buy a new ide cable? If you're still using that 40 wire ide cable that could be why you're having problems yet. You can go to any computer store to buy a 80 wire ide cable. Here's some links if you want to buy one online:

    Tymaraux,

The log shows there aren't any problems on the computer-burner-combination part of the burn (using the aopen), and since your fuji 4x disks are really TYG01, there isn't going to be any problem with the disks. That means the burning is fine, so if the disk doesn't play right, it's something happening before the burn (the data you're burning is corrupt).

Since the movie you're working with is "Click" (which is a garbage festival of "copy protection"), the most likely problem is a bad rip, in which case the earlier advice to use RipIt4Me to re-rip the original should solve your immediate problem.

It's not important at this point, but since you're using DvdDecrypter to burn from DvdShrink, you might want to change over to the modified version of DvdShrink that uses ImgBurn for the burning engine. Here's a link to where you can get it. ImgBurn is the newer version of the same burn engine in DvdDecrypter, so it would be a good idea to use it.

Once this particular project is complete, if you'll put the Liteon back in, and post a "Test Mode" burn log, we can probably straighten that out, but the messages you're getting sound like bad media. You may find that the fuji (TYG01) disks work just fine in the Liteon.
