having problem playing burnt cds that have films on

This proberly sounds reaslly stupid but I have deep burner to burn my disks and when I burn my films on to cd disks I do it as a data cd.I have now bought a new dvd recorder which plays divx films which is great and some of the old films I downloaded worked really well on it but just recently I have been having real problems playing any film that I have downloaded on it as it seems really pixelated and juddery but If I play them on my comp thay are fine.I have recently had to put my comp back to factory setting so everything was wiped could this be a factor in why it is doing it?.Or could it just be that some film types do this? if anybody could help that would be great thanks.
