Looking to find out if there is a DVD player that supports ASF files?

I HATE converting ASF to AVI because of audio sync problems, etc.

Some players say they play "Windows Media Files", but they don't seem to recognize ASF or WMV files.

    Is there such a machine?

  2. I believe that when they say they play "Windows Media Files" they mean music.

I've got portables here that play WMVs as WMA with sound only.

That's my guess too (that the Windows Media Files only pertain to music).

Damn I hate converting ASF to AVI.....but I'll say...it IS better than the worry of making EVERY file a VOB file, which is just plain time-consuming.

My Philips DVP-642 plays ASFs, usually. So it recognizes the container format just fine. Of course, whether or not it plays depends on the exact encoding method, not the file format.

The DVP642 does support the older asf format (v1-3 or something like that), but not all.

I would expect, that any of the newer players that have wmv support, would also play all of the asf formats.
