I bought a puny 1.8 GHz computer before I became interested in video editing. I don't even like movies (except my own), but I became enthralled with MovieMaker 2. My new editor is VideoStudio 7 which probably uses all the computing power I can summon.
My problem is with the 16:9 aspect ratio which my Canon ZR500 allows me to record. When my camcorder is connected to my 4:3 TV it displays in letterbox because I have told my camcorder to expect a 4:3 TV for playback. In MovieMaker 2, I have a menu option to select the playback aspect ratio, and 16:9 recordings play back in letterbox in the preview window as well as in Windows Media Player. With VideoStudio 7, 16:9 recordings are squished to 4:3 in the preview window, in Windows Media Player, and the DVD output is also squished on my TV. I have a TV menu option to force it to letterbox in order to display in the correct aspect ratio, but some of my videos are 4:3 and some are 16:9. The only reference to aspect ratio in VideoStudio 7 is buried deep in the capture menu and applies only to MPEG capture, not AVI.
How can a feature so fundamental as aspect ratio not be addressed by every video editor? Are the various video formats so poorly designed as to not include aspect ratio in the header of every video frame?

So is your wish to be able to view 16:9 footage on your 4:3 TV correctly?
One way to acheive this is to use our Enosoft DV Processor (you have a Sempron CPU, so it should work). The software has an aspect ratio conversion function - if the incoming video (DV from your camcorder or an existing DV AVI) is 16:9, it will be converted - in realtime - to 4:3. It doesn't just put black bars on the video - it corrects the aspect ratio. If the incoming video is 4:3, it leaves it alone. Once you have the corrected video, you can convert it to DVD.John Miller
