You disagree that humans are messing things up?
I'm just curious about your reply!

Yes, I disagree that humans are screwing things up and that the earth would be better off without them.

Gadgetguy, are you feeling alright? Seriously, don't you have something better to do than blatantly attack people? I understood the point of the point of this thread too, but someone got off topic by making this extremely presumptuous post:
Humans are the reason the Earth exists. If the only creature intellegent [sic] enough to appreciate it dies off, it no longer matters what happens to the Earth.
As stated in my first post, "Humans are the most destructive parasite on the planet." Earth itself would be better off without out people trying to alter Mother Nature. Of course that would be extremly bad for mankind...

I think you're confused. The purpose of this thread is an attack on humans. As a member of the human race, I took offense.

I reject your characterization of the post being presumptuous. The statement is bold, but not unwarranted in the face of the posted attack on the human race. It is also not off topic. The topic is that the world would be better off without humans, and my position is that the world is pointless without humans. The beauty and wonder of the world is lost on the animals because they don't have the intelligence to appreciate it.

    Humans are not parasites.
Humans are the most creative and constructive creatures on Earth.

I don't understand the sense of self loathing that leads to statements like this, or threads like these. I like being a human and I like the human race as a whole. I even like most of those that I've met personally. The world is a better place because we're in it.

    You got 28 words in!

And there isn't any reason to lock it because everybody
    is just having a conversation.

I lost about three paragraphs worth of reply switching between pages and have to start all over again

I caught the OPs flow chart to mean that man has kind of made a mess of the planet. Planet meaning the ecosystem. I tend to agree that the ecosystem would be better without man.

While I am sure that man has helped something somewhere in the ecosystem that may have failed without mans help, I don't know what it would have been. The list of damage to the planet (ecosystem) from man is so long I don't know where to start, so why bother.

To say that man has a higher purpose is hinting towards religion and not allowed and was not implied in the OP in either direction. (Lets stay away from that concept to keep this thread open)

To say that mans purpose is to serve man is deemed noble only in the order that we have a consious of such concepts. In the natural order it would be procreation. The twist that has somewhat unbalanced the natural order is that somehow we developed the use of tools. Take away all of mans tools and the natural order could be different.

The point, as I saw it, was not so much an attack on man, but rather a slap in the face to show that we are not doing a good job of stewardship (if it is to be our job) or that we are not living in harmony with the planet (ecosystem).

    So what do we do?

That is kind of the bad thing about text, the tone doesn't always carry well. I was reading into it some tones that may not have been as serious as I was fearing.

Not so much an opinion as an emotion. I felt attacked and responded accordingly.

Not that I necessarily agree, but this is completely different from "the Earth would be better off without humans".

At least not in this forum where we are restricted from discussions of politics and religion.

We are here thanx to the animals.
Even so on top of the evolution ladder we are using less than 10% of our brains which means that we are not smart enough and destroying ourselfs is our destiny.

Gadgetguy: I offer my sincere apologies. Please don't get me wrong, mankind has done a great deal to benefit itself. But in the process the sky, ground and water have all become poisoned. This isn't good for us, our descendants or the other creatures on the planet. With that in mind, the Earth would be better off without humans. As you stated there are other (much deeper) implications. Unfortunately we can talk about them.
    Meanwhile, lets have a beer.
