I tried to convert my 8mm analog tapes with digital Hi8 camcorder and capture them with Pinnacle Studio 10 as DV AVI files. Each captured frame, however, has about 1/16 inch black horizontal strip near the bottom changing intesity during capture and playback. How can I prevent that and capture clean frames? It is very annoying to watch a movie with oscillating strip. Thanks

  2. That's analog videotape head switching noise, and is normal. You won't see that on a normal TV due to frame edge overscan. The entire frame is visible in editing software on your computer, which is why you can see it.

If it really bothers you, or you plan on viewing the video on your computer regularly, you can always re-encode the AVI with VirtualDub, masking the bottom frame edge with black overlay.

Thanks. Is there any A/D converter, e.g. ,Canopus which will automatically eliminate the switching noise?

You could achieve this with our Enosoft DV Processor (still in beta, so free!). The software features a logo inserter - you would simple insert a 'logo' that is a black bar at the bottom of the video. It will do this in realtime as you transfer from the camcorder to the computer. You won't need to do any further processing afterwards. You can also do it on your existing DV AVI files.

If you are interested, I'll create a How-To Guide for removing switching noise.

If is not too much trouble, I would be interested to try it. Thanks.
