It seem to be a kind of codec or DirectX problem, not sure about that. Since PowerDVD play it properly, it is encoded in the right way. If you can not find a solution, but want to play it with windows media player by all means, you could reencode the file using a flip-vertical filter.

VirtualDub as well as Avisynth come with flip-vertical filters.
    VirtualDub:
Open the MPEG-2 file in DVD2AVI and create a project.
Convert the project with VFAPIconv to a fake avi.
Open that in VirtualDub, add the flip-vertical filter and start the frameserver.
Load the *.vdr into your favorite MPEG encoder (for example TMPG)
    Avisynth with mpeg2dec plugin:
Open the MPEG-2 file in DVD2AVI and create a project.
Write a sript with notpad as follows
    LoadPlugin("c:\..path..\MPEG2DEC.DLL")
    mpeg2source("d:\..path..\filename.d2v")
    FlipVertical

Save it as filename.avs and load it into your favorite MPEG encoder.

  7. Why don't you just turn the monitor/television upside down?

Thanks, CHyRO, I had the same prob and your fix worked great. Now if I could only get the audio synced in WMP8....

  10. thanks and this solved the problem with mediaplayer but powerDVD is still inverted. it was not so before i loaded the codecs after reloading xp. so there must be a global solution that fixes the problem instead of fixing it by defeating features in each program.

  11. realized that the problem is that avi are inverted in all players, mpg play just fine.
    running xp
    thanks
