I feel stupid because I am sure there is a guide for this, I just can't seem to find it.
Tried searching through the forums but I couldn't seem to find the situation that I have. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated...

What I have is an AVI file (sorry can't remember the format of the AVI now), a *.sub and the mapping file. I thought I might be able to do this with Nero but I couldn't figure out how. Would I need DVDLab for this or some other tool?

    Thank you

Usually the subs are just put in the same folder as the AVI type video and have the same name.
Sorry, I'm not too knowledgeable about subs, but you would get more answers in the Subtitle Forum. Moving you.

Do you have a .sub as in text sub, or sub as in .idx/.sub?
Do you just want it added to the AVI, or do you ultimately want to create a Video DVD?

  5. Hi-

Which authoring app do you use? Some have to have the subs in one format and some in others. If you use Muxman, Rejig, or IFOEdit (DVDAuthorGUI also I think, but not positive), then they take SUP format subtitles, It's as simple as a quick run through SubToSup to convert your IDX/SUB files. Some require SRT or similar text based subs, and an OCR is required. There is one that takes IDX/SUB, but I forget which it is. You mentioned DVDLab. It takes them in SRT and requires that you OCR, unless you can find them somewhere already in SRT format.

So, what do you plan to author with?

I thought about DVD Lab because I have that, but if it's not up to the task or something would be better I would consider getting what would work better.

Is there a guide available here that would go through this for DVD Lab? I hate bothering everyone with these stupid newbie questions

You might need DVD-Lab Pro for subtitles. But just click on the tool link and at the bottom of the DVD-Lab page there are guides listed.

You can also go to to 'AUTHOR' and find a list of general and specific guides that also cover subtitles.
    Here's a few subtitle guides: https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?howtoselect=5;20#5;20

I'd use sub2sup, then author with IfoEdit or Muxman.
Other alternative would be to OCR to .srt with SubRip, then author with DVD-Lab Pro.
