converting avi files

i tried to rip a dvd t o my hdd using dvd shrink and it didnt let me.it said the disc was not formatted.yet i could see and hear it on my comp.now i opened the folder by clickin on my dvd drive on "my computer"and copied the files to my hdd.they are listed in my folder as .avi files.i could watch them again on my computer even after removing the disk.....i tried to convert them to mpeg files using avi2vcd......it says the parameters are incorrect...does anybody know what im doing wrong or if it is even possible to get those avi files onto a dvd or cd...and if i am using the wrong tools could someone help me out? thank you

You're not making much sense. The contents of a Video DVD (which is what DVDShrink works with) generally doesn't include AVI files.
If AVI is what you have, take a look under CONVERT left. There are tons of guides on AVI to DVD/SVCD/VCD to read and try.

i uderstand that...i shouldve made myself more clear...what i meant is that this was dowloaded"legally " onto a dvd and when i tried to copy it it said the disc was not formatted...i then assumed dvd shrink only worked with mpeg files so i tried to convert themt o that.....hope this clears this up....BTW....beleive me..i have every article on converting...i even tried tmpegn and avi to dvd.

DVD Shrink on works with DVD structures. It will not work with raw video files.

If you have a standard burned disc, just do a disc copy with your burning software.
