I converted a couple of Youtube flash files (FLV) to AVI a few weeks ago, pretty much using the guide in the "Latest Guides..." section on the front page of Videohelp ("YouTube, Google Video Download and DivX Conversion Guide"; it's still there as of right now). However, I had trouble with Dr. DivX, I think I couldn't get it to open the FLV file. Anyway, I tried Super to convert to AVI and it worked fine. A little quality loss, of course, but not bad.
Don't know about SWF. Never tried to convert any.
Good luck. -
From the makers of Total Video come Magic SwfAvi where I have had excellent results doing just that. It is shareware program

For .flv files I use TotalVideoConverter and usually first decompress video to lossless .avi (Huffyuv codec), then edit and encode to MPEG.
The situation is not as simple for SWF files. They are compiled objects, not necessarily containing flash video inside and they are protected from conversion in native applications like Macromedia Flash MX. But there's an application called SWF Decompiler (shareware) that is capable of transforming it into the original project file (.fla) that can be opened in Flash MX and then converted to .flv flash video. The SWF file I experimented with was an animation video and it only contained a number of still pictures plus a script that controlled the framerate (variable) and order in which the elementary pictures appeared (can't remember the form of audio, possibly mp3). The applications swf2avi or Magic SWF2AVI (the one recommended above) behaved like real-time recorders for my file. For some reason (maybe due to other resource-consuming applications working in background) both skipped about half of frames stored in original SWF file, resulting in incorrect length of the final video vs audio (out of synch). This means there's likely no precise SWF2AVI conversion. The way through .fla file is not the shortest (I was not patient enough to complete it myself) but it might be more correct. -
