  1. I'm puzzling over an inconsistency in the total number of frames being reported for xyz.mpg. If I open it in TMPGEnc 3.0 Xpress, it's shown as 32,092. But VirtualDubMod says 32,753. What could explain such a difference please?

OPen it in G-Spot and see what it says. If it matches either, that is the one that is right.

  4. GSpot doesn't show the number of frames here. Nor does AVIcodec.
Do these show frames for MPG files on your system?

  5. I'll take that as a No from both of you then?

No, you can take it that some of us are on the other side of the globe and do, from time to time, sleep.

Version 2.52b certainly shows the length in time and frames. Can you post a screenshot of what g-spot is showing you ?

OK, thanks - sorry if I was impatient!

    Here's a screenshot:

But I see you're using a recent beta? Maybe that shows frames as a new feature? If so, although I'm normally wary of betas, I'll change to that.

I've tried many MPG files and GSpot 2.21 doesn't show frames for any of them.

FWIW, if I click 'Stat', this message is included in the pop-up:

The file's length is consistent with information embedded within the file, so it's fairly safe
to assume that this file is complete - i.e. the file has not been truncated or otherwise
    damaged.

  8. Have just downloaded the 'stable' 2.52 beta (not the very latest 2.61) from http://www.headbands.com/gspot/gspot252dl.html

Pleased to find that does show number of frames for MPG types, which increases its usefulness.
