hi. I hope someone can help with this. I'm amking a dvd using several clips. They began as avi's which i converted to mpegs. I stripped the audio to a separate ac3 file. Both were converted from 23 fps to 25 fps. I did this for each clip. I then use ulead to make my menus. But i noticed that when I previewed the "dvd" in ulead the audio is missing from the last few minutes of each track. Is this a problem with ulead, or is it something to do with the frame rate conversion. The audio is not out of synch, it just stops before the movie does. The auido and video were fine when they were avi's. Any help is muchly appreciated.
edit: I have narrowed the problem down to the conversion of wav/mp3 to ac3. On all files i am losing 2-3 minutes of audio, regardless of whether I change from 23.976 to 25 fps. Help please....

The preview requires a much more powerfull system than listed in order for it to playback straight away as the files have not yet been compiled , you are still dealing with only the project files .
Only suitable for checking the final output will work as expected via navigation .
If it navigate's as expected , output to folder , then play the folder content in you personal choice software player , if all is fine , burn this to disc .
Should audio or navigation be out , try a different software player ... some are better than others ... nero showtime , koolplaya , then power dvd , ect .
If error from playback of disk occure's , then media should be suspected first , burner second , software third .

Did you convert those avi's to 25fps mpeg2's first ... if not , audio length will not match ... this is why the audio stops before the video ... not same time length . -
I opened my avi in virtualdub. disabled the audio in stream list. Changed frame rate to 25, then select direct stream then saved as avi. I then demux the audio in streamlist. I then converted the avi to mpeg2 with tmpgenc 2.5. I then convert the mp3 from demuxing to ac3 with besweet. I also use this to change the audio frame rate to 25 fps. I used ac3fix to check the file and them import everything into ulead. hope this makes sense.

I should have asked which ulead product your using .
If ulead videostudio , you can bring the clips in as they are and do the conversion in ulead to the desired format and framerate .
Ulead also has audio extraction ... extract the audio by choosing the split tool , on the left , drop video on time line , drop audio there next , if audio dose not match , drag it to match , then do the conversion .
Problems will appear if audio is out by more than a few seconds , minor lipsync issue .
Doing it the way you have , I am not surprissed this issue appeared ... -
i use ulead dvd workshop 2. But i no longer think it is a problem with the authoring software. The file ac3 files that i want to put on my dvd are shorter than the video. I used vlc player to play the ac3 to check their lenght before importing to ulead. They are short by about 4 mins. But when I import the ac3 to ulead with the video they are in sych. Absolutly fine until the end of the movie where the audio stops and the video keeps playing. I have tried to output the dvd folders and check if it was just ulead messing about, but they are still short. I have tried converting the original mp3 to ac3 without changing to 25fps, but im still missing 2mins. I have no idea whats going on. I have tried various other software to convert to ac3 but i still have the same problem. The audio is fine in the original avi's, but as soon as i convert to ac3 i lose audio at the end.grrr...

Ok , limited in tools then ... audio mismatch can be quick or painfull .
I see it .... you messed up using vdub to change the video framerate ... thats where you went wrong .
Changing framerate to higher = speed up .. ie : 15fps to 25fps = fastforward
Lower = slow down or slowmotion
Vdub dose not do framerate conversion's the way you are thinking , it only makes fps adjustment to effect the rate it plays back in ... you need to either "make more or less frames per second" , which a few programs can do .
Tmpgenc say's it can but it's crap at almost all that it dose and I wouldnt pay 2 cents for it .
Super now can ... good for freeware development .
Ulead videostudio can do almost all , but ac3 is not supported .
======================================
If audio gose out of sync gradually , then framerate can be adjusted to match using vdub to change video framerate till it is correct and in sync ... this is the only time to use the framerate adjustment .
Audio should match video length before any conversion ... or problems will multiply further on .
Save avi .
Then the conversion can take place .
=============================
I recommend you download super , gspot , syncView , besweet , and mpegdemux.
Gspot will tell you if video and audio match length , and if you have the required decoders installed .
Super will do the conversion you require ... do not output as vob ... it not working , output as mpeg2 and use mpegdemux by the author of dvdauthorgui (go to authors site for this tool) to strip mpeg video steam out ... vdub to grab the audio ... then besweet to convert wav to ac3 .
The painfull part :
Syncview is for those out of whack audio jobs where things are correct and in others they are not .... joined avi's are a pain in the ???? ... use vudub to generate and avi video containing no audio , then export audio as wav .
Firstly , correct the time length of audio to match video .
Secondly , you now need to find the first out of sync area , and apply the amount of stretch required to resync this area ... you then find second area and repeat ... then third area .... and on and on till you get to the end .
The audio must match up with equal time length before any conversion ... this is most likely the error that is appearing .
=============
Audiocity can be used when a second or two need's to be added or minor fixups .
Such as between joined clips to prevent audio sync issue affecting second clip , and so on ... just a quick method .
