windows media player suddenly won't play mpg, avi

wmp has taken the huff and won't play anything except ms formats like wmv.

i recently installed ffdshow and then removed it again cos i realized i don't need it. i am wondering if this is the root of the problem.

by the way i have wmp 11. i've tried reinstalling it but that didn't work.

also, i do have vlc player installed and use it all the time, but i would like to get wmp fixed as well. more and more vlc is becoming my default player, but it annoys me that i dunno why wmp has gone t1ts up

well i think i'll just remove it. i already had vlc, but i just got myself media player classic and i like it plenty. think i i will make this default player for everything.

thats what I did. works great.

WMP 10 and 11 are associated with a lot of playback and fast forward issue. Install WMP 9, and that will combine the new 10, and 11 codec, with a stable player.
