  1. ok here is the background for this clip

i recorded this from free to air tv onto a vhs tape when we first moved into this house before i had a chance to fix the antenna on the roof. the reception was a bit snowy and kinda nasty all round.

i ran it from the vcr through one of those video enhancer devices that strips off some of the timing signal and replaces it as well as giving a small amplification of the signal.

the capture was done at 352x576 in mjpeg and frameserved to tmpgenc using virtualdub. i used the following filters

virtualdub -> blend deinterlace, bilinear resize to 352x288
    tmpgenc -> defaultlevel noise removal

the following is a short clip, around 15 seconds and 2.6 megs

all comments and suggestions are appreciated

    Hello Zebu,

My comments for you sample clip is:

    * it was ok-to-good quality for an off-the-air capture (well, it was my first taste
of someones else's OTA*** capture clip) - not a DVD source, but still ok.
    * so far, w/ the default noise removal, it looked pretty good for starters.
...how long did you spend on it to get it to this point for sharing, he he....

*** I may not be the best judge for OTA capture and encode, and maybe others
here have and might have a difference in opinion from mine, which is ok w/ me.

curious to see (read) what others w/ OTA experience will have to say.

Oh, can't think of the name of the band, but I like them!!

    Keep up the good work.

    Opps!!

I made a mistake in my comment...
I left out that I didn't view on TV. Sorry bout that!
I only saw via PC. I have a couple of VCD clips I'm
finishing up on and will add your's to my burn shortly.
Then, I'll let you know what my comments are.

Yep, looks fine'ta me, though I didn't burn to PAL - didn't realize
that it was. But it worked with my other NTSC burns.

  7. Zebu, whats your system specs, and recording specs too.
How much does the Pinnacle PCTV cost in AU$ ..?
    Thanks.

  8. system specs:

    Duron 850 @ 1054
    ECS k7s5a motherboard
    192 megs ram
windows XP pro (using fat32 file system for other reasons)
20gig western digital 5400rpm hard disk
    sb live value
and of course the pctv rave.

the capture details are pretty much what i said before except i had the picvideo Mjpeg codec set down to 18 because i was short on space, at that resolution and quality it was taking up about 3.5 gigs an hour and my cpu was at about 50% utilisation while it was doing it using iuvcr and the hacked wdm drivers that are also on that page.

the pctv rave cost me about $130 in a pre GST sale at harvey norman a while back but you can get one from cougar computers in canberra for about $180 www.cougar.com.au/index.cfm?ID=33&PART=4546

    i hope that helps cybermage26
