I'm saving lots of HD stuff on my DVR with plans to transfer and process that stuff on a more powerful machine.

My most ideal mac would be a laptop but I've got 2 concerns. One being that a fully loaded MacBook Pro still wouldn't be strong enough to play and process (encoding/editing) TS files with relative ease and that I can't add a video card to it so the laptop can record HD videos from the DVR. I've considered an iMac but I have the same 2 concerns.

I first want to know if a laptop or an iMac would not be ideal before I start considering a Mac Pro. Those are pricy

  2. MacBook Pro/iMac Core 2 Duo are powerful machines! you wont have any problems processing HD stuff.

I use an G5 Dual 2.5, it's fast! The Intel machines are faster

A MacBook Pro should be plenty fine. I still do tons of video work on an old 800MHz TiBook -- it's able to convert DVD into XviD or VCD at about half-speed. With the macs you're considering, you should be able to get the job done 4-5x faster.

    Go for it!

I guess I'll be getting a laptop then. Thanks for the replies.
