I have an avi file [xvid mpg 4] thats out of sync when played back on WMP or VLC. It starts off in sync but increasingly goes out as I skip through the movie. It's 0x2000 AC3 Dolby/ 48000Hz 192kb/s total [2 chnls] according to GSpot.
I'm looking to burn it and play it on my Philips 642 so I need to know if and how this can be fixed. ...RpM

First, forget WMP, it lies. Play the file in VirtualDub. You will need to install the AC3 ACM Decompressor first because of the AC-3 audio.

I would probably burn the file with an RW disk and test it before I got too involved trying to fix it. It might play fine.
    Good luck.

Thanks Scorpion King for the input...I installed the codec that you mentioned and played it with VirtualDub...still the same problem. I also burned it just to give it a try...no good. Is there a next step

    oh boy....

I just wrote a full page of stuff but I think the best thing for you to do first is:

Heres the guide for gradual loss of sync. Try this first.

If that isn't whats wrong with it then come back. We'll try something else. ok

    Good luck.

[edit]Only don't use the Tmpgenc thing as in the guide, just save as WAV then use AVIMux GUI or VirtualDubMod and mux the new audio with the video. Test play that again in VD. If you have trouble with the mux part we'll work on that next.
