  1. Hi guys.

It seems that when capturing video from my VCR to my computer using the canopus ADVC 110, the audio stream of the captured video is 2 channels stereo, yet one channel has no data in it(flat line) and the other one is ok.

I did what I could to find the culprit. It seems that the cables are ok, since changing them didn't help. Further more, I checked with my Hi8 camera and it appears that I get a working 2 channel stereo sound on my captured files when using it.

So that leaves me with two options: 1. The VCR is broken. Or 2. The VHS tapes are only capable of 1 channel(Mono) sound, so when the canopus captures to DV it has to make two channels audio stream, leaving one channel empty.
I also heard that a VCR that playbacks Mono tapes is supposed to produce identical two channels to emulate stereo. If that's the case then I guess one of the channels in my VCR is not working.

Any ideas how to verify who's fault this problem is? This is a good video and before I get a new one I prefer making sure it's broken.

You need to listen to the computer speakers, and see if one channel is indeed missing during capture.

Also, try playing the VCR into a receiver or amp not connected to the ADVC. Just check out the VCR with another unit of some kind. Then you can see if there is a problem with it before even getting into the pc video nightmare. One thing at a time. Easy to do.
