3 Coasters One after another... plz help

[macho2000]

hi,

i have had 3 coasters continuously. the same media used to work earlier.
its a local DVR-R. i have used it earlier of the same batch. but now i have no idea whts happening. Nero's info tool says its a FUJIFILM DVD-R.

below are the 3 logs from nero .... plz someone help me figure out whats wrong.... i'm not very keen on firmware flashing unless i'm sure it will solve my problem.
all the time the problem has been at the end when lead-in & lead-out are written... in case any other info is required plz let me know...

i need help real bad... & thanks for even readying this...

My first guess would be a bad batch of media or at least a few bad ones in a good batch. Your media appears to be Fujifilm LM03. You can look up the LM03 in the 'DVD Media' page to the left in 'Search Media Code'.

The error 'KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR' is the problem. It's sometimes caused by the writer being in PIO mode. But your DW-D22A is in DMA mode. However two of your other devices are shown in PIO mode, which is a problem and may be related to your burning problem.

To check DMA/PIO mode within Windows:

Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.

From there, right click on one of the channels and choose 'Properties>Advanced Settings'. All drives should be DMA mode. The 'Current Transfer Mode' for Hard drives is usually DMA 4-6 and DVD burners DMA 2-4, DVD ROMs usually DMA 2. If you see any in PIO mode, that can slow things down.

Changing them back may be easy or complicated. First see if you can change them in that window. If not, I usually uninstall the channel the drive is on and let the OS reinstall it. This will usually take a reboot. This will not damage any files on the computer.

@redwudz - - 1) i did a search... but mine is a local brand... but i could make out the media is a bad one from the search...
2) i'm uynable to set the 80GB seagate to DMA mode... i'll try the reinstal a lil later..
3) will try changing the media and see..
meanwhile... any help would be grt...

In all three logs, Nero says DMA is enabled, but the errors are coming up about 40 minutes into the burn. Despite what Nero is reporting, almost certainly the drive is in PIO mode. In an earlier post in this thread, redwudz provided the information you need to verify that is the case, and correct it.

Not only does PIO take a lot longer, but it is CPU intensive. It's a worst case scenario since you appear to be doing other things on the computer during the burn (the first log shows only 225 MB were available of the 750 MB of memory on your system).

Report back if there are any problems.

I wouldn't waste my time with new media, firmware or anything until DMA is enabled on all peripherals. Remove controllers from device tree and reboot. Run Nero Infotool and see what your configuration looks like after rebooting. Make sure DMA is enabled on the BIOS screen during bootup for all devices or go into BIOS setup and check.

DMA off on the Seagate HD is probably the issue. Follow GKar's advice.
