    Hey Everyone,

I am trying to make a DVD with multiple titles and multiple chapters per title. I want to combine clips to create each title with each clip becomming a chapter. Most of the clips are ripped from DVD using VirtudalDub, but there are also some files that were given to me in avi format.

Longstory short, due to framerate and other issues, I have been unable to join them in Virtualdub. I can use Diko and GUIfordvdauthor to make a DVD where each clip is a title, but I haven't been able to find a way to do what I described before.

So basically, should I be combing the mpgs after Diko (are there any programs that do this WITHOUT killing the quality?), doing something with the AVIs, or using something like PGCedit to treat the titles like chapters? Any help is greatly appreciated

If the DIKO output is fine, yes, pull that into TMPGEnc DVD Author and join titles and set chapters any way you want.

Thanks for the tip! I don't really have the $90 to spend on it though.....is there something that I will still be able to use for free in a month?

  5. You cannot put videos with different properties (resolution, framerate...) into one title. That's just out of the DVD spec. No authoring program is able to do that. If the short break between the titles (usually less than 1 sec.) really disturbs you that much, you will need to convert all your clips into one stream with consistent properties. As framerate conversion is one of the most 'problematic' topics if you want to keep quality, I wouldn't do it.

If your clips should have consistent properties after the conversion to mpeg with diko, then it's simple: You can join the clips with mpeg2schnitt or cuttermaran (both freeware) and output all as one stream. Import it into GfD and set your chapters.
P.S. Both mpeg2schnitt and cuttermaran need elementary streams. If the output from diko is multiplexed, you need to demux. These steps (demux, join) are without any quality loss.
