  2. If you don't mind losing your transitions. You could export your PowerPoint to all .jpgs and use Ulead DVD Pictureshow. Not sure but I'm sure you can export your sound to .wav and voila. VCD 2.0 which works in most DVD players.

  3. If you want your slideshow on VCD, your transitions are history.

You can save the individual slides by setting the page size to 7.34" wide x 5" high and saving as a TIFF or JPG file. PowerPoint will save all of the sides at once and sequentally number them. Your slides should now be sized at 704x480, which is the hi-res spec for VCD. You can use the Phillips VCD Toolkit, VCDImager, or Nero to save the files to a VCD.

If you want to add sound to each slide, check out this guide:

  5. You can do transitions with moving images, but not still images. The only way to preserve your current presentation is to record it to video. You could use a VCR or another computer with a video capture card, provided you have a way of outputting the presentation to video.

  6. You could also use a screen recorder program like HyperCam or Camtasia to record the PowerPoint presentation to an AVI file while it is playing. Then you could convert the AVI file to Mpeg and create a VCD. It wouldn't be a real slideshow but would basically be a movie of your PowerPoint presentation. However you would keep your transitions and audio.
HyperCam etc are resource hungry so you should keep the screen resolution to 640x480 or 800x600 maximum with 16-bit color and you may be limited in the framerate you can capture depending on the speed of your system.
Ironically Mac users have a much easier way to do this. PowerPoint on Mac has an Export to QuickTime option that lets you export directly to a QuickTime movie. You could then convert from QuickTime to Mpeg for VCD. Even the latest PowerPoint on Windows doesn't have a comparable feature AFAIK.

  7. thanks for the help guys!
i found out that roxio ezcd platinum has
    arcsoft video impression.
it can create a movie from stills and has transition
    effects like powerpoint...plus background music!

powerpoint to quicktime---that's neat. Mackies have all
    the fun.

  8. If you use a slideshow with your stills turned into video clips though, you are limited to a screen resolution of only 352x240/288 for VCDs which is entirely insufficient if you want to display any sort of detail (e.g., text).

SVCD is better with a resolution of 480x480/576 but it still doesn't compare to standard VCD hi-res still images. This is something you have to consider.
