Hi everyone!
I've been trying to backup a korean DVD called Three Extremes. Bear in mind that this is the first problem I've come across barring scratched discs etc.. Anyway, the disc would not open in DVD Shrink so I researched the cause and followed several methods and programs listed on these forums to get round this (DVD Decrypter with PGCEdit plugin, DVDfab Decrypter, AnyDVD etc).
I got to the point where I've ripped the disc and shrunk it with DVD Shrink and burned it. Great, problem solved then. Er, Nah!!
The backed up DVD will not play in my stand alone player it just sticks on reading disc (Panasonic S75) and on any PC program I've tried (Power DVD, Windows Media Player, Nero Showtime and Real Player) with this disc causes them all to crash. (had to close, send error report etc). It seems that the structure is still corrupt somehow.
Any ideas anyone?

Have you tried RipIt4Me or DVDFab Decrypter? Some videos are very difficult to rip. But being a Korean DVD, I suspect other problems besides state of the art encryption. But they may have a system similar to some videos from India that appear very difficult to back up.
OR
Were you able to play the ripped VOBs from the hard drive without any problems? You might want to extract the MPEGs with a program like VOB2MPEG and reauthor the DVD. It may have a problem in the DVD file structure or menus and not be related to encryption.
But others may have better ideas.
And welcome to our forums. -
Hey redwudz! Thanks for your advice!
I got a bit further by using Ripit4Me which then used FixVTS to clean whatever encryption was protecting the DVD.
So, after following the instructions and then successfully shrinking the files down to 4.37Gb in DVDShrink I found that the new backup now played in my standalone player which solves the original problem! Great!
Unfortunately I got a new problem now! As the DVD in question is not English I need the subtitles but somewhere between the 1:1 ripped Video_TS files (around 7Gb) and DVD Shrink they disappear! In the DVDShrink preview they are not there despite me checking the settings and making sure the English subpicture box is checked. I confirmed this by analysing the backed up DVD in shrink and it said there were no subpicture streams.
Got any ideas on this one?!
